INTRODUCTION
Literacy For All ( LFA ) Project is designed to achieve 50% adult literacy by the year 2015. With 60% net enrollment (2004 estimates) every year 0.25 to 0.3 million children remain illiterate and enter into age group of 10—19 years of age which means permanent ineligibility for formal school system. Currently there are 3 million illiterates in the age group of 10—20 years of age
By the year 2015, with an estimated population of 28 million and, with current rate of 1 % annual improvement in literacy we can only attain 50% overall literacy which means still some 8 million illiterates in the age-group of 10—39 years of age
Primary target group of LFA Project (10 – 19 years) of age constitutes 25 % having 3.5 millions illiterates
The overall cost to achieve Draft plan target is estimated as 72 billion rupees. |
