A leading, and the sole, Semi-Government Institution of NWFP for promotion of literacy through Community participation.
MANAGEMENT
Elementary Education Foundation was established under “The North West Frontier Province Elementary Education Foundation Ordinance, 2002” It is a body-corporate. The management has been vested in the Board of Directors headed by the Chief Minister NWFP. While Minister of Education is the vice-chairman of Board of Directors. There are five official and five co-opted members.
Elementary Education Foundation is headed by Managing Director who is member-cum Secretary of Board of Directors.
To improve literacy, with particular focus on women, through Community schools and employment of teachers in deficient areas.
Improve quality of education through teachers training.
Promote Community participation.
Mainstreaming the education imparted in religious schools and mosques.
Introduce innovative educational programmes relating to literacy.
Give loan to non-governmental organizations for establishment of elementary education schools.
FOUNDATION FUNDS
The sources of funds include endowments, grants, donations, trusts, bequest by Government of Pakistan, Government of NWFP, Local and International Agencies. NWFP Government has allocated an amount of 400 million rupees equal to 6.90 million US dollars (Conversion rate of February 2005 @ Rs. 58/- Dollar) as seed money. This capital amount has been invested in various Developmental Financial Institutions.
Elementary Education Foundation was operationalized in the year 2003-2004 with its Headquarter at Peshawar . Elementary Education Foundation started its functions with a lean organizational setup which still continues.
